New Specimen Update 24 August 2018

24 August 2018

Hello All,

This weeks update features a themed selection of Sulphides and Sulphosalts - Forty Shades of Grey!

  • A very fine, large, botryoidal Native Arsenic from Jáchymov in the Czech Republic, of metallic dark to light grey over a band of orange-red Sphalerite on a Calcite matrix
  • A classic, well-formed silvery metallic crystal of Cobaltite measuring 1cm in a matrix of characteristic dark-bronze Chalcopyrite from Tunaberg in Sweden. Cobaltite specimens such as this are becoming increasingly hard to find
  • A superb rich vein section of Argyrodite with Pyrargyrite and Stephanite from the Santiago Alto Mine within the Porco caldera of Bolivia. The sulphide and sulphosalts are zoned around a central vein of a volcanic country rock bounded by red-brown Sphalerite
  • A beautifully crystallised specimen of the antimony oxy-sulphide mineral Kermesite, from Pezinok in Slovakia. Characteristic dark maroon acicular Kermesite crystals to 3cm are associated with silvery metallic-grey Stibnite on a light country-rock matrix
  • Well-developed, tabular metallic silvery-grey twinned cogwheels of Bournonite to 3.5cm from the Viboras mine near the small town of Machacamarca in Bolivia. The Bournonite crystals stand mainly on edge in the biscuit-tan coloured Siderite matrix with associated areas of Tetrahedrite crystals
  • A heavy small cabinet specimen of the silver antimonide mineral Dyscrasite, displaying intergrown metallic grey and grey-yellow crystals, many with a glistening micro-crystal surface of an undefined mineral species. An extremely rich specimen from a Harz mining area in Germany
