New Specimen Update 25 January 2019

24 January 2019

This weeks update looks at the beauty and visual variety of European minerals, including:

  • From the Kamariza mines, close to Lavrion in southern Greece, a very rich specimen of crystalline-botryoidal dark green Zincolivenite with later green sprays of green Malachite on a Goethite gossan
  • A classic, very fine sky-blue Baryte with crystals to 5cm from the Frizington Iron Mining area in Cumbria, England. Excellent lustrous translucent blue crystals of Baryte display superbly atop a creamy crystalline Dolomite matrix
  • A fine high lustre crystal of Zircon measuring to 2cm, with a great root beer colour and fiery internal reflections, set in a black Biotite and white Feldspar matrix. From Seiland Island, Norway
  • A classic 'ramshorn' Gypsum crystal rising from a matrix of micro Gypsum crystals. A great example from the Kamariza mines to the west of Lavrion in Greece
  • A superb specimen of bright, turquoise-sky-blue crystal druse of Cuprian Adamite covering white bubbly Aragonite over a Goethite gossan on grey Marble. From the Kamariza mines in Greece
  • A classic alpine cleft specimen from the Cavradi Gorge in Switzerland. The characteristic mirror-bright metallic black platy crystals of Hematite are dotted with very occasional micro-crystals of red Rutile. The Hematite crystals are associated with gem-clear Quartz crystals to 4.5cm
