New Specimen Update 29 March 2019

26 March 2019

This week we have a lovely selection of specimens from worldwide localities:

  • A rare and beautiful specimen of crystalline botryoidal pink Rhodochrosite from the North Mine at Broken Hill, Australia. This covers large areas of well-developed slightly Amethystine Quartz. Underlying the specimen is fibrous Kutnohorite and 'Limonite'. Very aesthetic
  • Bright orange to yellow-orange crystals of Mimetite measuring to around 6mm with a stepped habit, from the famous Pingtouling mine in Guangdong, China
  • Excellent well-formed crystals of Pyromorphite are developed as converging pyramidal sprays from the MMM mine, Broken Hill, Australia. The lustrous light clove brown crystals measure to a good 3.5cm long. A splendid specimen!
  • Well-formed crystals of Fluorapatite, measuring to 2.2cm, of a white to grey colour have formed on a wide, parallel-growth, bladed crystal of lustrous black Ferberite. This is partly coated by intergrown disc-like micro-crystals of light brown Siderite. A stunning specimen on both faces from the Panasqueria mine in Portugal
  • A classic specimen of Spessartine Garnet from the North mine at Broken Hill in Australia. Excellent highly lustrous crystals of Spessartine are richly intergrown in the metallic silvery-grey Galena matrix. The Spessartine crystals measure to 1cm and range from orange to a rich root beer colour
  • A great miniature specimen of Chromium enriched Cerussite displaying yellow to white intergrown crystals with 'Limonite'. The crystals have a silky sheen reminiscent of optical fibres. From the Dundas Mineral Field in Tasmania, Australia
