New Asia & Eastern Europe Update 28 August 2020

28 August 2020

We continue on our mineralogical tour of Asia and Eastern Europe with a really exciting selection of superb specimens! Let’s begin with three we feel are particularly beautiful and special. Starting in Afghanistan, a sublime inky-blue Lazurite forms large flattened crystals set in finely crystallised Albite feldspar. Next, on to Pakistan and a fabulous light sky-blue Aquamarine Beryl, again in a matrix of snowy-white Albite. The Aquamarine grades upwards to a water-clear gemmy termination and displays beautifully. Finally, we travel east to China and a Malachite which has to be seen to be believed. Varying from deep bottle-green to electric emerald-green, this tactile botryoidal velvety mass shimmers with both a satin and silky bright lustre. A fabulous specimen. Other beauties include vibrantly coloured butterscotch and rich barley sugar Mimetites from Thailand and China; the very rare species Väyrynenite; a wonderful Elbaite Tourmaline coloured acidic green and pink, reminiscent of rhubarb; an intense cornflower-blue Sapphire and some splendidly crystallised sulphides such as Chalcocite and Djurleite. Enjoy the tour!
