New Americas Update 11 September 2020

11 September 2020

For today’s Americas update we have a spectacular selection of stunning ore and gem minerals. We’ll start by looking at three of our first class specimens which were originally mined for their metal content but, fortunately for us, were saved from the ore crushers by some sharp-eyed miners.

Beginning in the Keweenaw Peninsula in Upper Michigan, we have a fabulous miniature of branching Native Copper crystals underlain by a small matrix of glassy Calcite from the Calumet and Hecla mine. Next up, from the Kelly mine in Socorro County, New Mexico, we offer a blue-green-turquoise Smithsonite forming lustrous silky undulating mounds over an altered limestone matrix. And moving south to Peru, take a look at the museum-grade Atacamite from Lily mine at Pisco Umay. The Atacamite forms lustrous glassy deep bottle-green crystals to around 1.5 cm which nestle in a vug lined with glassy Selenite crystals coloured snow-white through to delicate aquamarine.

Today’s selection also includes a fantastic range of superb Tourmalines, mainly from Brazil and California, although one exception is a stunning gemmy green crystal from the Dunton Gem quarry at Newry in Oxford County, Maine, a rare classic indeed. And do take a look at the two wonderful Rhodochrosites, a gorgeous Elmwood Calcite and a wonderfully rich Chalcophyllite from Potrerillos mine in Chile.

As you will see, a beautiful and colourful range of first-class specimens from North and South America, so please feast your eyes and enjoy! All are available to purchase and we hope you will spot something that fits well into your collection.
