New Green Update 16 October 2020

16 October 2020

This week our theme is Let’s Go Green! and what a selection we have of this wonderfully varied colour, from deep sage and exotic sea-greens to stunning neon-emerald. For some other colours, a monochromatic take could prove monotonous, but for green, it’s a whole viridescent spectrum.

Dioptase is always a collector’s favourite and the one we offer from Tsumeb in Namibia is an absolute gem. Lustrous deep emerald-green Dioptase crystals are aesthetically scattered over sparkling silvery-white Calcite crystals and delicate smoky Cerussite.

From Mount Gunson mine in South Australia, excellently terminated crystals of Atacamite to 2.3 cm form a divergent array ranging from rich leafy-chromes to lustrous deep bottle-green.

The Vesuvianite from Jeffrey mine in Canada is amazing, where a reddish-purple core is overgrown by gemmy vibrant lime-green Vesuvianite, looking like sticks of crisp fresh rhubarb!

Finally, we highlight a wonderful group of Emerald crystals laid flat on mica-schist from Afghanistan; emerald-green of course, but incorporating a rich and vibrant tones of chrome-green.

Keep a look-out for great Pyromorphites from Barstow’s Trench in Cumbria and Dognecea in Romania. The Fluorite from Papa’s pocket in Diana Maria mine, Weardale, is sensational and can best be described as neon emerald-green with a hint of sea-green somewhere in the mix! In daylight it fluoresces an intense inky sapphire-blue, especially around the crystal edges, framing the inner bright emerald-green cores. Just amazing!

I could go on and on, but that would leave few surprises. Take a close look at all 21 specimens in today’s update. Lead the scene and keep it Green!

Here is what you have to look forward to in next week's updates:
