New November New Finds Update 13 November 2020

13 November 2020

Friday is here already and we continue today with our New Finds themed week. We are featuring newly discovered Fluorite form Yaogangxian mine in China and Lady Annabella mine in Weardale, England, plus Elbaite Tourmaline from a recent discovery in the Coronel Murta district of Minas Gerais, Brazil. Three very different types of locality, but all have produced many incredible specimens within the last year. Following cleaning and preparation, we are now in a position to showcase some of these fabulous pieces.

Starting in China, the Yaogangxian mine is in Yizhang County, a division of Hunan Province, and exploits a large tin-tungsten ore deposit. Amongst the many minerals it produces, the superb colour-zoned Fluorites have become a firm favourite amongst collectors. One in our selection today is a matrix of snow-white Quartz crystals, piled over with the most superb purple Fluorite crystals, all with remarkable colour-zoning. Deep purple alternating with smoky-grey-lavender form intensely coloured nested phantoms, all with a broad central zone of smoky-lavender crackled with deep lilac. All the specimens from this locality are spectacular!

A recently discovered pocket of gem Tourmaline in the Coronel Murta district of Minas Gerais, Brazil, has yielded a magnificent range of pink and red Elbaite crystals which are sensational. We have several for you to choose from today, one of which is a beautiful and striking Elbaite Tourmaline, forming a fanned array of terminated sugar candy-pink crystals to 4.8 cm tall and dusted with double terminated milky-white Quartz crystals. This specimen displays at least 26 individual terminations, all of which are undamaged, with a bright glassy lustre. All prism faces are highly lustrous, with the prisms grading form translucent creamy sugar candy-pink to more translucent terminations of an intense rose-pink with a gemmy quality. It is simply gorgeous.

The Lady Annabella mine, close to Eastgate in Weardale, England, began operations in July this year and is rapidly gaining a reputation for its amazing diversity of top-quality Fluorite specimens. From the Sherry Twins Pocket we have an interpenetrant twin of transparent, gemmy medium-sherry coloured Fluorite crystals measuring 3.7 cm and 2.8 cm. When held in direct daylight the gemmy zones fluoresce a mild yet impressive blueish-Royal purple.

So please take a look at What’s New at Crystal Classics and we think you will make some very worthwhile discoveries following our trail-blazing journey of mineralogical discovery.

Here is what you have to look forward to in next week's updates:
