Andradite Garnet Var Demantoid

ID: CC1798

A fine gemmy small cabinet specimen of Demantoid from the recent find in Madagascar. The Demantoid Garnets richly invest the granular pale yellowish Garnet matrix forming an excellent contrast. The Demantoid crystals to 1cm form two major intergrown areas on the specimen. The crystals are transparent gemmy with a high reflective vitreous luster. The colouration is from a rich yellow-green to light green. A really pleasing specimen of Demantoid. The area from which the Garnets come from in Madagascar is mined by shallow pits and shafts up to 18m deep, sunk to gain access to the Demantoid-Topazolite bearing Skarns. The Garnets are extracted by various small mining groups. The workings are frequently inundated by tidal waters on the fringe of the coastal Mangrove swamps, restricting the mining.
