Austinite forms very large crystals (for the species) to just over 3mm, grass green in colour with a satin lustre. The Austinite is well crystallised covering the matrix. The crystals overgrow a bright green botryoidal layer on matrix. Along one side of the specimen the Austinite crystals are in turn overgrown by sprinklings of another mineral - probably Dolomite. Some of the best of species for Austinite have been found at Tsumeb in the 2nd oxidation zone. This specimen is unusually well crystallised with large crystals, and we do not often see them on the market from Tsumeb.
