Baryte on Calcite

ID: CC999

Baryte is only occasionally seen from Merehead Quarry, Somerset, England. The specimen we have to offer displays a major Baryte crystal 1.8cm long showing classic double chisel shaped terminations. There are a number of other Baryte crystals in association to 1.4cm on a druse of translucent Calcite crystals. The Calcite is partly coated by a thin crust of shiny black Mn oxides in some areas, and in turn encrusts a typical grey-black Mn oxide. A fine example of Baryte from the Tony House collection.
