Baryte on Fluorite
ID:
CC59
A rare Baryte specimen from Wheal Mary Ann featuring two pale greenish-yellow partial Fluorite cubes completely covered on several faces by yellowish Baryte crystal. The Baryte crystals range from gemmy to opaque with a pale yellow colour, and the larger crystals have a darker brown growth phantom in their centre. The crystals are elongate, measuring from a few mm to nearly 5cm in length. The largest Barytes measure to 2cm width. It is very rare to have Barytes from Cornwall, and this is one of only a handful of specimens from Wheal Mary Ann that we have come across. The specimen dates from the late 1800's and Baryte was only found in the upper levels of the mine.
