Betekhtinite With Chalcocite

ID: CC2639

Prismatic crystals of Betekhtinite to 4.3cm long span across the central area of the specimen. The Betekhtinite is composed of bundles of parallel growth acicular crystals. Betekhtinite is a Lead, Copper, Iron Sulphide, very rare in such well developed crystals. It has a typical metallic lead grey colouration. Areas on the specimen have hexagonal crystals of Chalcocite to 0.5cm, which predate the formation of the Betekhtinite. Micro crystals of colourless to light tan Calcite are scattered and aggregated over the specimen. The matrix is Quartz showing gemmy crystals to 0.5cm on clasts of a light greenish county rock. The Dzhezkazgan area is a classic location for Betekhtinite, and this is a fine example of a rare species.
