Bitumen on Calcite

Bitumen from the Derbyshire Orefield was occasionally found whilst mining was in progress. The specimen we have shows characteristic pitch black lustrous globules of Bitumen, measuring to 1.8cm. The globules of Bitumen have formed on and between pyramidal crystals of colourless to white Calcite crystals. A rich Bitumen specimen from the Orefield.
