Cassiterite Var 'Wood Tin'

ID: CC947

A fine Cassiterite 'Wood Tin' specimen from the St. Agnes area, Cornwall. The specimen displays to advantage the banded annular habit of this variety of Cassiterite, with light and dark colouration to the alternating bands. From a well known classic Cornish area for the variety. Interestingly 'Wood Tin' and the related variety 'Toads Eye Tin' Cassiterite are believed to have formed from a gel rather than the higher temperature crystals.
