The Trepča Complex in Kosovo is one of Europe’s premier ore deposits and comprises of about 40 mines. The ore body is associated with lead-zinc and silver mineralisation and to date almost 80 species have been recorded. This large cabinet specimen of Calcite with Rhodochrosite, Pyrite and Quartz is outstanding and is certainly worthy of any museum display. Entirely covering the top surface of a linearly foliated, vuggy Quartz matrix with included massive Galena, equant pentagonal sided white translucent Calcite crystals are richly scattered over a continuous bed of acicular needle Quartz crystals, all to about 5 mm tall. Equally distributed are 0.4 to 1 cm rosettes of pale salmon pink Rhodochrosite crystals and the odd cluster of lustrous metallic golden Pyrite crystals. This is a remarkable specimen, packed with interest and beauty from the Trepča Complex in Kosovo.
