Krennerite is a rare gold-silver telluride, similar to the gold telluride Calaverite. This cabinet specimen is from Krennerite’s type locality at Sacarîmb in Hunedoara County, Romania, formerly named Nagyág. Forming striated brassy golden crystals to a few millimetres long, the Krennerite forms as euhedral well developed crystals, as seen close to the attached label “4” and as lath-like sections embedded within the dark grey matrix by marker labels “2” and “3”. I can’t see label No. 1, this must have come off the specimen before it came into our hands. The gold tellurides form a specialised area of mineral collecting, but one which is highly popular because of their more exotic chemistry.
