A bright and busy, good-size cabinet specimen of intergrown, metallic silver-grey Galena in the cuboctahedral habit with crystals typically to about 1 cm across. These are associated with lustrous black Sphalerite crystals, metallic brassy gold Chalcopyrite and minor Pyrite with light biscuit coloured Siderite. From the ancient Cavnic mining district in Maramureș County, Romania, the Galena crystals have that slight rounded and frosted appearance we commonly associate with specimens from Madan (Bulgaria), what is colloquially termed ‘melted’ Galena. A showy and classic polymetallic sulphide specimen from Cavnic.
