A stunning specimen of the rare calcium-cerium carbonate fluoride Synchysite-(Ce) from Pizzo Bandiera in the Mount Cervandone area in Piedmont, Italy.  A strongly foliated, black speckled cream-white matrix of leucocratic gneiss has a stepped upper surface on which a 7 mm long, orange-clove brown Synchysite-(Ce) crystal sits.  The crystal is double terminated, one end of which is bifurcated, with separate individual terminations.  The overall dimensions of the Synchysite-(Ce) are 7 x 2.5 x 2.5 mm. This mineralisation is associated with Alpine-type clefts in the leucocratic gneiss of the Monte Leone nappe.  A very fine example of this relatively rare mineral species.
