Powellite is a calcium molybdate and member of the Scheelite Group.  While typically opaque and neutrally coloured, this specimen is a rich, beautifully crystallised group of glassy, semi-transparent leaf-green, stepped tetragonal crystals. These sit amongst a rich carpet of a micro-acicular and massive blue-green mineral of unknown species, worthy of more detailed microscopic study.  This is a particularly fine example of Powellite and impressive for its locality of “Las Estobas”, Copiapó Province in the Atacama Region of Chile.
