This fabulous Stibnite from Baia Sprie in Romania appears to me as a spectacular pseudomorph after Baryte, although not labelled as such. I don’t know is such pseudomorphs occur at Baia Sprie, so I’m sticking my neck out! Priced at only $300 you can’t go far wrong, so even if it is not a pseudomorph, it remains a thing of beauty and a specimen fit to enhance any collection from Romania. The base displays several radial sprays of acicular Stibnite as metallic silver-grey needles to over 2 cm long. However, on the display surface, the Stibnite, an antimony sulphide, forms flattened metallic plates of typically 1 cm wide with chisel-shaped terminations built from acicular Stibnite. Make of it what you will, but it’s a splendid Romanian Stibnite of terrific aesthetic and habit.
