Romania is rightly famous for its amazing diversity of rare ore minerals. This excellent Miargyrite, a silver-antimony sulphide, comes from Baia Sprie (Felsőbánya mine) in Maramureș County. The Miargyrite forms blocky silver-black metallic crystals up to about 4 mm across which are richly scattered over mid-dusky grey terminated micro-Quartz crystals. The Miargyrite is beautifully crystallised, often showing striated surfaces and occasional ‘V’ twinning. Although not named on the accompanying old labels, many small silvery-gold, Krennerite-like crystals are also scattered amongst the Miargyrite. A magnificent Miargyrite for any collection.
