A delightful cluster of epitaxial Fluorite crystals from the famous 2016 discovery in the Larkin’s granite quarry at Shannapheasteen in Costelloe, Connemara, County Galway, Ireland.  Composed of translucent, deep inky violet-purple cubic crystals, the individual cubes have nucleated on the tips of a first-generation octahedral crystal, resulting in epitaxially aligned cubes forming an equant cruciform cross.  If perfect, there would be six symmetrically arranged cubic crystals, each coinciding with the six apex points of the octahedron, however, in the process of crystallisation, only three of these have formed.  The largest is 2.5 cm across its longest dimension and displays excellent, broad bevelled edges.   A lovely example of these hard-to-find cruciform habits from Larkin's Quarry.
