The mine workings at Wheal Jane date back to the early 1700’s and throughout its life produced both copper and tin.  This old mine, close to the city of Truro in Cornwall, made it back into the news when it reopened in 1969 under Consolidated Gold Fields Ltd. and operated until 1991 since when it quickly flooded.  Many fine mineral specimens were produced during the latter period and the Fluorite discovered in Level 15 is a readily recognisable Wheal Jane classic.  Despite its incredible mineral wealth, the Cornish mines are very lacking in Fluorite and even rarer, well crystallised Fluorite.  This large cabinet specimen has its almost 18 x 12 cm display face entirely covered with 1.5 to 2 cm cubic Fluorite crystals of delicate pastel sea green, many with their edges blushed speckled lilac.  The crystals are built from stepped micro-cubes giving an added layer of complexity to the aesthetic.  The Fluorite crystals cover a heavy and substantial matrix of mixed massive Fluorite and metallic sulphides.  A superb Wheal Jane Fluorite ready to enhance any Cornish collection!  Please note, a little additional postage may be necessary for this quite weighty specimen.
