Andradite Garnet with Hedenbergite and Quartz

A fine example from the classic Andradite Garnet locality at Mega Horio on Serifos Island, Greece. Excellent, well-formed Andradite crystals of orange tinted milk chocolate brown to dark chocolate brown and measuring to 1.5 cm are intergrown to form a solid crystallised mass. These cover a 2 to 3.5 cm thick matrix of grey-green Hedenbergite in the habit of densely packed acicular crystals, aligned vertically from the base and normal (at ninety degrees) to the coverage of Andradite. Several milky white, tall narrow prismatic crystals of Quartz are scattered over the Andradite surface, the longest measuring exactly 3 cm. This is a great example of Garnet from Mega Horio, accompanied with the previous German (Munich) dealer’s label.
