Epidote

A fine, rich and lustrous large cabinet specimen of prismatic Epidote crystals varying from pistachio to dark bottle green. It is from the type locality for Epidote at Bourg d'Oisans in Isère, within the Rhône-Alpes region of France. The Epidote forms a dense carpet of intergrown glassy crystals, all sloping in a common direction towards one end, an indication of how the specimen was positioned when in-situ. Acicular Epidote crystals of 2 to 2.5 cm tall completely cover an elegantly thin, foliated matrix of schist or some similar highly metamorphosed rock type. Backlit, many prisms become semi-transparent and glow bright leaf green. A stunning Epidote from its type locality and of museum quality.
