For quite a while now I have not seen a Les Farges Pyromorphite and was developing withdrawal symptoms; this specimen has, fortunately, now satisfied this need! The remarkable Les Farges mine, close to Ussel in Limousin in central France, somehow never ceases to produce amazing different colours and habits of Pyromorphite, and to an extent whereby a collection built from nothing but Les Farges Pyromorphites would may a fascinating and spectacular display. This specimen is not typical of Les Farges, in that the Pyromorphite crystals cluster in tall, vertical, botryoidal plumes with rounded caps pitted with the void spaces between individual crystals. In places, the tall plumed sprays are tilted, so displaying their long prism faces which have a brighter lustre than their domed terminations. The colour is unusual also, what might be termed a fresh, spring leaf-green. The base of the specimen is also remarkable with hollow geometric lines and triangular features, thought to be epimorphs of former Baryte blades. Yet another fantastic and quite different spectacular Pyromorphite from Les Farges.
