ID: CC12095
A rich vein of cochineal-maroon-red Cinnabar sandwiched within a banded white Quartz-vein matrix. Within the Cinnabar vein, a 2.3 x 1 cm cavity is mostly lined with deep blood red prismatic Cinnabar crystals, each to a few millimetres. From the Avala mines in Serbia this is a great example of vein mineralisation, made more unusual due to the presence of Cinnabar, a mercury sulphide. The specimen comes with a handwritten old label.
