ID: CC12526
Lustrous deep blood red Cinnabar crystals measuring to 0.5 cm are scattered and clustered over micro-crystallised drusy Quartz, this coating a deep grey-black siliceous rock matrix. This fine example of the mercury sulphide is from the Idria (or Idrija) mine in Slovenia. The crystals are translucent with a brilliant glassy lustre and although not gemmy, have a gemmy appearance. Semi-crystalline coatings of paler cherry red Cinnabar also partly coat the top and base of the specimen.
