Greystones (or Greystone) quarry is still in operation mining roadstone and occasionally encounters the vein system that was worked by several mines in the 19th Centaury. One of its most iconic minerals is Aragonite, and this small cabinet specimen is a fine example. Milky-white, semi-translucent to opaque spiky crystals radiate out in all directions from a central core, with some individual crystals attaining almost 5 cm long. Within this specimen are at least two gemmy colourless Quartz crystals to about 8 mm with a Dauphiné habit. The Aragonite crystals tend to be colourless and translucent and have been subsequently overgrown by an opaquer snow-white secondary coating.
