Alstonite is a rare barium-calcium carbonate which forms in low-temperature hydrothermal veins.  This specimen is from one of its two joint type localities, High Cross Vein in Brownley Hill mine by the village of Nenthead, Alston Moor in Cumbria, England.  The co-type locality is the Fallowfield mine in Northumberland.  The Alstonite forms sharp, dog-tooth-style crystals of 3 to 10 mm within an open vein, dusted snow-white by a film of earthy textured Baryte.  This lovely example was collected by Lindsay Greenbank in 1990 and comes a Greenbank label.
