This miniature is a lovely example of crystallised Cassiterite from St. Agnes, the beautiful coastal village on the north coast of Cornwall, almost due north of Redruth. Mineralisation here is associated with the St. Agnes-Cligga Granite, an offshoot boss emanating from the more southernly Carnmenellis Granite. Lustrous black metallic crystals to 4 mm richly encrust about 40% of the upper surface of massive mixed Quartz-Cassiterite veinstuff. The Cassiterite can become quite translucent and once back-lit shows distinct clove-brown faces and edges to the crystals. A choice miniature specimen from the famous tin mining district of St. Agnes.
