We tend to associate fine English Calcite crystals with the west Cumbrian iron mines, but exceedingly good and characteristic crystals were also a feature of the Alston Moor mines. This ex. matrix, small cabinet specimen is a superb example of a long single translucent milky white Calcite prism of pseudo-hexanal habit with a flat, trigonal nail-head termination. All faces of the prism are glassy smooth and highly lustrous with a 2.7 cm tall Calcite crystal attached to one side, adjacent to the base. Under LWUV the Calcite fluoresces very weak reddish-cream. This habit of Calcite from Alston Moor is seldom seen for sale and this is a great representative example for your collection.
