This charming branching cluster of Bornite crystals comes with two old labels which, typically for their time, give the locality simply as the Camborne-Redruth mining district, which contained the highest density of mines anywhere in Cornwall. Although we cannot state with any degree of certainty, such Chalcocite specimens were, and are, well known from Carn Brea mine in Illogan, approximately mid-way between Camborne and Redruth and adjacent to the London to Penzance railway line. The intergrown Bornite crystals are tarnished with colours ranging from sooty black to characteristic peacock blue. This is a lovely ex. matrix small miniature or possible large thumbnail (twice the size of my thumbnail however!).
