A tightly clustered group of burnt raspberry-red Rhodochrosite crystals on a small matrix of Manganite from the N’Chwaning Mines at Kuruman in the Kalahari Manganese Field, Northern Cape Province, South Africa.  The Rhodochrosite crystals are all about 1.5 cm high and have developed as a tight intergrown group. The surface of the crystals is coated in a sucrosic secondary overgrowth of Rhodochrosite micro-crystals together with small patches of colourless Calcite and black Manganite.  Some of the Rhodochrosite crystals are cleaved across the surface of the specimen where they display a glassy interior.  Rich in colour and with the most attractive secondary growth, this is a great specimen from the N’Chwaning Mines.
