Many specimens of Chalcedony on Quartz from Cornwall date from a period where few details were recorded apart from the county, be this deliberately to protect their source or simply because this was considered of little importance. The very fine creamy-mustard to greenish-yellow-tan Chalcedony forms a thick 2 to 3 mm crust over well defined Quartz crystals of between 2 to 4 cm tall. The Chalcedony forms mm-sized botryoidal mounds with an attractive pearly lustre in druses over the Quartz. Despite only being labelled as “Cornwall”, this specimen is clearly Cornish and indeed, a very fine example. It bears an old label of early twentieth century or Victorian era, numbered ‘117’.
