A very rich crystallised cabinet specimen of intergrown, deep maroon octahedral Cuprite crystals measuring to 5 mm, on and in a white Quartz veinstone from Wheal Gorland in St. Day, Cornwall. When Wheal Gorland first began during the 1700s, the village of St. Day did not exist and so the mine’s location was given as Gwennap, the local parish. Typical of Cuprite from this district, the crystals now display a silvery-black patina, yet once closely examined, rich patches of the true maroon colour shine through. A terrific Cuprite from Wheal Gorland which will look great displayed.
