A characteristic and beautifully crystallised miniature Galena from the Leadhills mining district in Lanarkshire, Scotland.  Measuring overall to 4 cm, this single, ex. matrix Galena crystal just has that “Leadhills” appearance, of a highly modified cuboctahedral crystal tending towards a dodecahedral habit.  The edges are sharp while the faces, mirror-smooth, yet with a slight uneven curvature and subtle iridescence to the lead grey prism.  The base is cleaved, revealing bright silver Galena within.  This lovely Leadhills Galena comes with an old F.H. Butler (late Talling), London, label and will make a great addition to any Leadhills-Wanlockhead suite.
