Wheal Gorland famously worked the Muttrall Lode, a lode that has become fabled amongst mineral collectors for its seemingly endless supply of treasures.  But sadly, the end did arrive and now any specimen from this mine is highly sought.  The combination of crystallised Native Copper together with fine octahedral Cuprite crystals is a classic mix from Wheal Gorland and this cabinet specimen is a beautiful example.  Hundreds of equant, octahedral deep cherry to burgundy red Cuprite crystals line countless vugs pervading a matrix of massive metallic Cuprite.  The Cuprite crystals are typically about 1.5 mm wide and although reading this conveys tiny crystals, once masses of them line the vugs they dominate the specimen.  The Cuprite is also tarnished on many crystals with iridescent shades of metallic peacock blue, purple and mauve.  Throughout much of the specimen 1 mm Native Copper crystals of reddish milk chocolate brown are developed amongst the Cuprite.  A superb specimen from Wheal Gorland.
