Two part, intergrown rhombohedral Calcite crystals with beautifully smooth glassy faces and a magnificent lustre. This miniature was collected in the mid 1980’s from the 200 level at Cambokeels mine, near to the village of Westgate in Weardale, County Durham. It is ex. the Patricia Greenbank Collection and comes with one of her distinct labels. The longest edge measures 2.7 cm and each Calcite rhombohedron has bevelled edges, an unusual and very rarely observed Calcite morphology for Weardale. The crystal faces are amazingly smooth and slippery, a quality which can be seen from the lustre and reflective surfaces. Under LWUV the whole specimen fluoresces bright tangerine-orange. A gorgeous miniature from Cambokeels.
