Carn Brea is a prominent elongated ridge of granite adjacent to the A30 road and railway line between Camborne and Redruth.  The mine lay beneath its northern slopes, close to what is now South Crofty mine at Pool.  The Carn Brea granite is a satellite offshoot of the much larger Carnmenellis pluton.  This splendid miniature has an unusually large (for this locality) mauve Fluorite crystal, naturally etched, attached to black crystalline Specular Hematite, tan Siderite and brassy Chalcopyrite.  The Fluorite crystal measures approximately 4.5 x 4.0 x 3.5 cm and displays at least two generations of Fluorite crystallisation indicated by the morphology and changes in colour.  A delightful Fluorite specimen from this well known mine in the Camborne-Redruth copper-tin mining district.
