Greystone quarry is situated about 4 km to the southeast of Launceston and derives its name from nearby Greystone Wood. This remains an operating roadstone quarry where quarry workings sometimes interest a lode system which was worked by a few mines in the eighteen-century. These included Greystone silver lead mine, Wheal Sophia and North Tamar mine. The quarry has over sixty recorded mineral species with Aurichalcite being one of its more well known. This small cabinet/large miniature displays a good coverage of light bluish turquoise Aurichalcite crystals over a matrix of light orange-tan gossan matrix. Just for the record, almost all collectors call this quarry Greystones, but being pedantic, it is not pluralised, hence labels should read Greystone quarry.
