A splendid crystallised Aragonite from the mines at Wanlockhead, Dumfries and Galloway (formerly Dumfriesshire), Scotland.  Sharp, needle-like acicular crystals of translucent creamy Aragonite, typically 1 cm tall, cover a matrix of mixed Calcite and metallic sulphides.  A degree of iron staining lends an orange-tan tint to some of the crystals. It should be noted that many crystals are cleaved with their terminations missing but, at this small scale, this does not distract from an otherwise rare and excellent Aragonite from Wanlockhead.
