A most attractive small cabinet specimen of lustrous, smoky orange Eisenkiesel crystals scattered over an elongated rib of botryoidal Kidney Ore Hematite from Margaret mine near to Frizington, in west Cumbria, England. Eisenkiesel is a variety of Quartz, coloured by inclusions of microscopic, particulate Hematite. The Hematite is partly overgrown by micro Specularite crystals, themselves a variety of Hematite, yet so tiny they appear more like a coating of mid-grey dust giving a matt finish to the specimen. Where the botryoidal Hematite is exposed, it is a mahogany reddish-brown displaying a bright metallic lustre. A highly aesthetic specimen.
