The Blackdene mine by the village of Ireshopeburn in Weardale, County Durham, England, is one of the more famous mines of this area and renowned for its wonderful purple Fluorite. This specimen is free of any matrix and consists of intergrown rich lilac-purple cubic crystals, typically between 1 to 1.5 cm on edge, and lightly dusted with milky-white Calcite crystals to 2 mm in stacked clusters. Granular black Sphalerite is scattered over the base. A good purple Fluorite from Blackdene mine.
