A group of semi-transparent lilac Fluorite cubic crystals sit on a bed of sparkling, snow-white Quartz crystals encrusting a tan Dolomitic matrix. From Blackdene mine, close to the village of Ireshopeburn in Weardale, County Durham, the Fluorite crystals are typically 5 to 7 mm on edge and form as single and interpenetrant twins. The colour contrast between the Fluorite and white Quartz, along with the bright lustre of both species, makes a most attractive large miniature.
