A small miniature of the rare double carbonate of calcium and barium, Alstonite, named for the nearby town of Alston in Cumbria, England.  This specimen is from the Brownley Hill mine at Nenthead, Alston Moor, Cumbria, one of its two joint type localities, the other being the Fallowfield mine in Northumberland, England.  The Alstonite forms steep sided milky-white hexagonal prisms to 7 mm tall, some double terminated, with a dull to pearly lustre and set in a matrix of small curved blades of white Calcite.
