The variety of Cassiterite known as Wood Tin occurs at several localities throughout Cornwall, but the alluvial deposit near the village of Bojewans, 9 km north-west of Penzance, is amongst the most famous.  This rather gorgeous specimen is a mass of solid charcoal-black Cassiterite that has overgrown a bed of milky-white Quartz crystals, cross-sections of which show in the base.  The top of the specimen is formed from undulating drusy mounds of mid-chocolate brown, fibrous Cassiterite, giving the Wood Tin structure.  A characteristic Wood Tin specimen from the historic tin placers around Sancreed and a highly sought variety from Cornwall.
