Many of you will be familiar with the Mineralogical Record’s famous supplement in early 2010, ‘The Lindsay Greenbank Collection: Classic Minerals of Northern England’. The first chapter covers the Caldbeck Fells, a richly mineralised area of the English Lake District and good coverage was given to Campylite, a variety of Mimetite found at Dry Gill mine, high up on the fell top. The Mimetite here ranges enormously in colour and in this superb ex. Lindsay Greenbank specimen (No, LG. 187), light pea-green to apricot-orange curved barrel-shaped crystal aggregates richly cover a long shard of milky-white vein Baryte over both sides. The Campylite barrels average 5 to 10 mm diameter. This specimen was collected by the Greenbanks in 1971 and comes with a highly detailed label. A great Campylite from Dry Gill.
