The world-famous Heights mine at Westgate in Weardale is most readily associated with emerald-green Fluorite, but does occasionally produce a rich variety of other colours. This choice small cabinet specimen of Fluorite is composed of interpenetrant twinned, greyish-sea-green cubic crystals of high transparency with a wonderful bright glassy lustre. The cubes are crisp with razor-sharp edges and the faces exhibit several forms of growth patterns, including interesting lightly etched patches whose geometry traces the growth features. In direct sunlight many of the crystals emit a rich Royal purple fluorescence, more from their centres than their faces and some crystals are non-fluorescent. A great sea-green Fluorite from Heights mine in Weardale.
