Fluorite with Galena
ID: CC14022
Classic gemmy Weardale Fluorite from the world-famous Boltsburn mine by the village of Rookhope in Weardale, England. Twinned interpenetrant crystals of Fluorite measure to about 2.0 cm on edge. These are of a rich dark mauve-purple with great colour zoning and gemmy green phantoms within, typical of this most illustrious mine. At one end is a metallic silvery-grey cuboctahedral crystal of Galena, about 1.8 cm in diameter. In direct daylight the bright glassy lustred crystals slightly fluoresce with a wonderful reddish-mauve, so characteristic of this mine and under LWUV the Fluorite strongly fluoresces purple and white. An excellent Boltsburn Fluorite with a U.S. National Museum label and an ex. H.G. Seaman Collection label.
